The History of Team Sugarbee

Team Sugarbee is a Colorado Bike MS family and friends team. It takes its name from Kelly Walker Haley's childhood nickname, "Sugarbee". Kelly was an outstanding athlete in high school and college. She was diagnosed with MS in 1988. Kelly's friends and family saw the devastating effects MS had on her and were motivated to ride and raise funds in an effort to find a cure for the disease.

Team Sugarbee stared with 6 people back in 1993 and has grown to over 130 riders at 2009's ride. Marsha Macro, a close friend of Kelly's, is co-captain with Tim Jr., Kelly's brother. Both of these dedicated loved ones have been instrumental to the growth of the team. In 2009, Team Sugarbee was one of the top fundraising teams in Colorado. The team is comprised of friends and family that communicate by this web site, e-mail and telephone.

Team Sugarbee not only has cyclists, but they also sponsor "The Sugarbee Rest Stop" on the first day of the ride. Kelly's parents, Tim and Betty Walker, organize an entire hive of volunteers to refuel and encourage cyclists at the rest stop, which has been repeatedly voted the best relief station of the tour by participating cyclists.

We want to continue to be a growing, dynamic MS 150 team and do our part to raise funds to research and defeat MS in our lifetime. Come and join us in that fight! Be a Bee!
